inside my bag : an in depth report

September 30, 2005

lately, i have realized that the insides of my chloe paddington bag is hard to reach due to it’s soft, supple distressed leather. how? the size, compartments and side pockets of this purse are just cryptic enough that every nook and angle of the bag can hide it’s contents and it ends up hard to find. i usually fumble my way to reach my keys, phone or pager. one day at target, i almost dropped everything on the floor in an attempt to grasp my ringing cellphone. it sure beats the hell out of the fendi spy bag, who promises secret storage inside this must-have accessory since spring. this chloe in-demand bag claims it has the functionality and unparalleled leather luxury but fails to mention it’s heavy padlock, monstrous enough to cause serious health issues. still, the status of this purse elevates you beyond likeness. not really. up until pages of the magazines plastered pictures of celebs toting the crumbled leather-looking bag, others barely recognize it’s appeal. what really makes a bag, THE bag to have?

for me, as long as it carries my daily essentials, they are good to go. as long as it has enough room to carry the shitload of stuff i tow everyday, it will be an integral part of my wardrobe. crucial enough for me to find outfits revolving around the acquired in-the-moment purse. for my bone colored paddington, i have worn colorful clothes this past summer and on towards the fall season. it’s neutral color does not clash with my multi-colored tunics, embroidered jeans or bejeweled sandals. it’s best with white denim matched with any multi-hued blouse or shirt.

the most important thing with your purse is what’s inside it. mine carries my whole life. what’s inside yours? take a look inside mine……

in my kitchen

September 27, 2005

for the last few days, i made use of what was in my pantry hoping to save up on stocks and supplies during the recent hurricane scare. i discovered a few neglected non-perishable items in my pantry and thought of a few twists on popular filipino dishes.

first, outside my pantry and inside my refrigerator in the vegetable bin, was a whole bunch of water spinach or kangkong. i have never done this before in the kitchen but i cooked adobong kangkong without the pork. with a few spoons of vinegar, soy sauce, bagoong (shrimp paste), onions and creatively, i used garlic flakes (i was out of garlic) to saute the leafy greens. i think i did fine. my version came out comparable to my mom’s.

for my dessert out of the pantry, i thawed out grated cassava and mixed them with condensed milk, an egg, vanilla and surprise, halo - halo mix in the bottle!. my dear friend joy thought of this add-on as i’ve ran out yet again of coconut milk and buko (young coconut) strips. it was cassava cake with beans, kaong and langka (jackfruit)! surprisingly, it turned out sweet and rustically good.

experimenting in the kitchen is not my thing, but at times of desperation, your survival instincts in the kitchen won’t fail you.

my love affair with jeans

September 26, 2005

it’s quite an understatement when i say i love jeans. the endless search for the perfect fit continues. the search for the ideal blue jean wash still lives. the stitchings and pocket placements matter. the exact cut still eludes me.

a few years ago after reading countless magazines, i was intrigued on a couple of high-end jeans that promised the consummate fit and feel. jeans like earl, seven for all mankind, juicy couture - are just some of the few ones that first emerged in the scene.

i saved a few bucks and bought my first sevens. i first laid my hands on the non-stretch denim ones. it had medium wash - not too dark, not too light. they fit ok but the butt sagged as the day progressed. the swish design in the back pockets made up for the discomfort wear. knowing that i was sporting the most exclusive jeans in town, the fit didn’t matter now.

after that first pair, i was curious to try other brands to compare to my first sevens. i found that non-stretch would create a boyish figure towards the end of the day. the stretch denim material will maintain the fit and hug of every womanly curve and bulge. it also helps if you buy a smaller size that would slowly stretch out later in the day. i then discovered ag jeans - for me, they fit very well and i may say the best for me. they just have enough stretch to give room for a much not-oh-so-tight fit and yet the back waist seam does not open up but hugs the small of your back. after four or more ag designs i’ve owned, i moved on to newer jean designers who invaded the denim market.

soon my closet was filled with numerous jeans and it’s varieties - dark or light washes, cords, white denim, cut-offs, bermuda denim shorts, jeans with elaborate pockets, with twisted seams, low-waist/high-waist, boot-cut/flared - anything under the sun. i still can’t get enough of them though. after years of collecting them, i found that it would be different for each one on how the denim interprets your body type. i then zoomed in on only a few that i think were best for me - citizens of humanity, blue cult, true religion and paige jeans. there are still more out there. month after month, new upcoming designers are taking the chance to introduce yet the next best thing predicted.

for now, if there’s extra cash in my wallet - i will try yet a new pair - hopefully to find the next “it” jeans.

i wish i can stop. i wish the inspiration to create halts. the momentum should be interrupted. but no, it proceeds. it lingers and searches for a more creative venue to further annotate events and by-products of my insatiable mind.

the daily chronicle show is composed to illustrate my raw visions and evoke a more enamored passion for writing as juvenile as i can be. so, don’t take me seriously.
